Raising the roof at Penrith Stadium

Penrith Stadium has reached a major milestone, with the first section of the eastern grandstand roof installed, providing a glimpse of how the transformed stadium will look when complete.

The modern-designed roof will improve the gameday experience for spectators and once complete, more than half the seats in the eastern grandstand will be covered, nearly doubling the number of covered seats from the old grandstand.

Two local Western Sydney businesses are central to the roof’s installation. Quality Rigging Services Australia (QRSA) is responsible for expertly rigging each of the four sections to secure and prepare the components for lifting, and Borgers Cranes are using a 600-tonne crane to lift the pieces into place, some weighing up to 70 tonnes.

In total there are 172 prefabricated roof sheets measuring 24 metres in length, which are being meticulously preassembled on the field of play to ensure precision and efficiency during installation.

All seating plats (formed concrete) on the eastern grandstand are now in place, and early works on the multilevel western grandstand are underway, including concrete poured for the player runout area.

The next phase of works will see the installation of steps on the eastern grandstand and the pre-assembly of the western grandstand roof.
