Managing environmental impacts

The demolition of the Penrith Stadium grandstands was carried out this year with meticulous attention to safety, environmental standards, worker and community wellbeing—setting a benchmark for responsible construction practices.

Demolition activities, often linked to dust and pollution concerns, were proactively managed by the project team and mitigation measures such as high-performance water cannons were deployed across the site to minimise impact. The water canons efficiently dampened and suppressed airborne dust particles while maintaining safe levels of air quality.

Site monitoring systems, rigorously tracking dust and pollution levels throughout the demolition process, recorded no spikes. Dust monitoring consisted of two real time SiteHive monitors located at the north and south ends of the project site. These monitors provided live data with insights into dust measurements and direction of where the dust was coming from and how wind speed influenced it.

Other initiatives to minimise environmental impacts included stabilising access ways to reduce dust generation from plant movements and using low dust generating demolition methods such as shears and rippers instead of concrete hammering.
