Local manufacturing helps shape Penrith Stadium

The new Penrith Stadium is taking shape with the support of Australian manufacturing, following the development of a custom steel section specifically for the project.

When the stadium’s east bowl and west roof structures required a bespoke circular hollow section (CHS) in a size not produced anywhere in Australia, head contractor John Holland worked with Australian steel manufacturer Orrcon Steel Manufacturing to design, develop and manufacture the product locally at its Unanderra facility.

A new 250mm OD (outside diameter) × 9mm CHS size was developed to meet the project’s structural requirements. The collaboration resulted in approximately 62 tonnes of Australian-made structural pipe being supplied to the project, supporting key stadium structures while maintaining a fully domestic supply chain from steel production through to installation.
