Lighting the way
The installation of four new lighting towers marks another major step for the new Penrith Stadium, upgrading facilities and elevating the experience for players, fans and concertgoers.
Rising 50 metres above the stadium, each tower (including its head frame) weigh 20 tonnes and are fitted with Light-Emitting Diode (LED) floodlights, designed to meet the demands of modern sporting and entertainment events. The lighting towers will improve visibility on the field, while creating a more immersive experience for players, fans and concertgoers.
The LED floodlights have a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, significantly reducing ongoing maintenance needs. The new system also offers up to 38% savings on energy costs, making it an environmentally and financially sustainable choice.
To improve player conditions and audience comfort, the LED lighting features advanced optics to reduce glare and improves clarity on the field, while minimising light spill into surrounding areas. Additionally, the installation of 24 sport lights on the grandstand roofs will provide better visibility for athletes and spectators alike.
A fully automated control system allows the lighting to be tailored to different events, from regular season matches to major concerts. The system also enables dynamic lighting shows, helping to build atmosphere and excitement before and during events.
Installed by local contractor Smada Electrical, the upgrade reflects a strong commitment to quality, innovation, and local delivery, supporting regional expertise while delivering cutting-edge infrastructure for Western Sydney.
